C.A.R.E.S Act

The C.A.R.E.S Act is also acting as a much needed boost for our educational system:

  • Nevada will receive $108 million for Education Stabilization, an allocation based on its share of Title 1 for K-12.
  • Nevada will also receive $26.1 million from the Governors’ Emergency Education Relief Grant.
  • Nevada Higher Education will receive $73.3 million in assistance.

This is great news for Nevada!

One way the Washoe County share of the  Emergency Relief Grant could be put to great use: is to support a part of the foundational piece of the physical layer of distance learning; to purchase some of the learning devices students will need.

Chat With A Retired Principal & Educator

Today I had a chat with a retired educator.

We discussed the burden our teachers hold. He said anything more added to the teachers is too much. I agreed and suggested we need to relieve the burden. We must understand what isn’t working. Too much testing? Ineffective programs or initiatives? Teachers can tell us what these are.

I discussed with him my idea to lesson these burdens by invigorating and motivating students to believe in themselves; to ignite the fire and desire they need to trust and appreciate their education. We also spoke about how the environment outside of school can be very difficult for students, but what is learned in school including academia, character and motivation is something that transcends many years of a child’s life and is more powerful than any temporary circumstance. We agreed parents, community and the district must be unified once again and how valuable this is. At this discussion, he said, “I’m softened“ and I could tell he was excited as he thanked me for running.

Dear teachers,

Thank you now and before, your lasting impressions strengthens and adds value to our lives!

Sincerely,

Your students

WSCPOA

Last night I had the pleasure of virtually visiting with the fine people of the Washoe County School Police Officer Association. They asked many good and thoughtful questions. I shared the message of unity, character, motivation and future. We honor the Officers that protect and serve our schools. They instill unforgettable values to our students that will join our communities. They are the face of the authority of morality. We must back them up.

ACTIONN

In virtual distance, today I met with the kind people of https://actionn.org/ 501 (c)3 today and answered some questions on school safety, the COVID strategy, WCSD budget stewardship, diversity and student character. Explained my vision of knowing the student and knowing the student future and how this relieves the burden of the community post-graduation. The group enjoyed the message and I enjoyed the thoughtful questions. Washoe Co. people do care!

Out and about in Washoe County

I was out in 89512 the other day and met with a gentlemen who said, “My cousin wants to be a gangster when he grows up.” He was saddened, but the hope in the message of future encouraged him. We must reach our children.
